People from all over the world remember, June 5 of every year from 1972 onwards as the World Environment Day (WED).

Every year a catchy theme is coined for WED to protect the environment.

This year -2009, the theme is “Your Planet Needs You – Unite to Combat Climate Change.”

In fact, saving the environment of our planet is the main mandate of WED.

Schools and Colleges, NGOs and Environment related organizations organize awareness campaigns by conducting seminars, film shows, drama, road shows etc.,

Every one of us who live in Planet Earth has the responsibility to safeguard and protect the environment.

Several things are being made by man for his survival on earth without due consideration to the harmful effects they produce on the long run.

Already, we feel the pinch of it every corner of the world.

It is true as the human population increases, the waste materials we generate also increases.

Where to dispose off such wastes?

How to dispose off them?

Enormous efforts are going on at various levels to find solutions to the mentioned questions.

Day by day we are hearing and experiencing the danger to polar bears, pesticide residues in food and water, decrease in tiger population and many more threats.

There are many organizations; mostly NGOs are much worried about the safety of Planet Earth.

Every one of us as responsible individual has an unavoidable duty to participate in WED and pledge to save our environment and live in a clean and healthy condition.

Each one can do a bit, by economizing fossil fuel, electricity, water, food and many other items.

Similarly one can take a decision to live simple instead of using more and more machines which consume more energy and causes pollution.

Thinking of planting trees and protects them to grow, by avoiding plastics and using eco-friendly products as much as possible.

It’s all in the mid-set of mankind who know the effects of climate change on Planet Earth.

Countries as nations take part in this attempt but at the same time, ultimately it is the individual – men and women – who has to do.

A bit by one individual certainly help in protecting our environment.

Therefore, we need to think over it seriously and decide how we can contribute our effort to WED of 2009.
